The Evolution of Work is Changing The Global Economy

Modern generation has brought about a lot of changes to technology, business, education, and even how our economy works. One thing that’s particularly striking is the structural shift of the work environment. Is it positive or negative? What are its implications? Let’s examine it below.

Hierarchy Shift

Companies are already veering away from the hierarchal model where the boss tells everyone what to do. This form of management is called sociocracy. It promotes harmony among members of a team, which give them a sense of responsibility in crucial decisions as they work for a common aim.

Anyone can voice out their ideas and contribute to the development of the business. The same way goes for investors in the business as this method caters to the needs of different stakeholders of the company in a balanced manner.

New Leadership

The leaders of today are different. They know that it’s not effective to scold and daunt their members to do work as it does not promote camaraderie. With holacracy, leadership is not concentrated in one person, as being the “boss”.  It is distributed among the members of the team, and their opinions are always taken into account. Information is also shared and processes are kept transparent.

Flexible Hours

With the development of technology, some companies allow  employees to just simply "connect to work."  They can work home-based, office-based, or wherever they may be comfortable as long as they get the job done. Shifts can also be adjusted according to the company or the employee, they may opt to work in a graveyard shift or your average nine to five shift.

The direction which the structure of work is going is a microcosm of an economy that gives importance to its people. It can be compared to “the parts make up a whole” analogy. With the way is it right now, we can expect a brighter global economy.
